Georgette Heyer is the first word in Regency England romances. She is only outstripped by Jane Austen who had the advantage of living during that time periods and so was considered a contemporary writer of the Regency time.
Georgette Heyer was a best seller her entire writing career without publicity, special appearances or interviews. It’s said that she personally answered letters from fans, when the letters discussed points of history. Ms. Heyer is especially impressive to me, because she sold her first book the age of nineteen entitled “The Black Moth”. My personal favorite of hers is a collection of short storied called “Pistols for Two” and from what I can surmise, her most popular novel was “These Old Shades”, a smooth and excellent read.
Ms. Heyer’s stories had intrigue, humor, romance, murder, etc, all the things an avid Regency novel reader expects in this genre. Georgette was born in 1902 and died in 1974, and she had over fifty books published in hardback. She was never an acllaimed author, but she was a consistent best-seller, even to this day. Ms. Heyer is credited with creating this genre of novel, and her skill as a writing is uncommon. So if you are looking for an excellent author, and you love the classic Regency Romance, then Georgette Heyer is someone you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
